We looked at many different African textiles during our CHAINS connector.

Each piece of material was unique, vibrant and very beautiful.

We enjoyed learning about secret codes and how these could be sent through different fabrics and sewing techniques.

We have finished our solar system quilt. Lotte Collett, Elizabeth's mum, helped us to make our success.

We started by getting all the materials ready and then we chose our section to do. Then Lotte showed us how to sew, so we could make our brilliant quilt.

It took a couple of weeks, but with the help of 28 children and 2 adults + an amazing sewer, it was worth the time.

We have been learning about light.

Our Christmas show is next week.

Indigo Class children need to make sure they have suitable clothing:

Zulu Children: Milo, Tiki, Eve (Sofia bring in costume)

Belly Dancing Costumes:  Zackhala (Ava bring in costume), Esme (Holly bring in costume), Daniyal (Louisa bring in costume)

Our main song is The Paradise Island.  Children should dress in Caribbean /brightly coloured holiday clothing.  These costumes could include flip flops, sombreros, Hawaiian shirts and shorts . . .

or children should bring in costumes that relate to belly dancing.  These costumes could include golden fabrics, bells and veils . . .

If you have additional props at home that we could borrow for our show, please bring them in.

Costumes should be brought in a named plastic bag for Monday 5th December.

On Monday 17th October 2011, two special guests visited our class.  Their names were Mary and Ollie.  Ollie is Mary's friend and guide dog.

Mary is blind and leads a full and exciting life!  Ollie helps Mary to find her way around her local town.

Mary told us that she enjoyed playing bowls, going canoeing and taking part in lots of other sports.

We were all impressed with Mary's talking mobile phone, her talking watch and her coin dispenser.  We were also interested in listening to Mary explain how she chooses the clothes she has to wear for the day.

We learnt that it is important not to distract a guide dog when they are wearing their harness.

We are all so excited  about our trip to Paris!

We will be visiting our link school and meeting up with the penfriends we were writing to in Year 4.  (It's a shame they've now been split into four classes and it will be hard for them to keep writing.)  We enjoyed meeting them in London last summer and it will be great to see them again.

We're also looking forward to seeing some of the famous Paris monuments we've been learning about!  Which will be your favourite?

We love to read.  We were glad for the opportunity to raise money for a children's charity by dressing up as our favourite Roald Dahl characters.

We read Jesus' parable of the Good Samaritan.  We thought about the meaning of this parable and realised that it doesn't matter who you are or where you come from.  You can be a good "neighbour" by helping someone who is in need.
